Freshly painted exterior parts, and a box full of new parts. Fun stuff.
Closer shot of the painted pieces. This is one of the frustrating parts. I like the color, but got the wrong type of paint. I'll have to redo it later. Grr
Ball joint. I had to disassemble then re-grease and put back together. Messy and fun.
Starting the re-assembly. Lower portion from one side.
Same time from the other side.
Wasn't good about taking pics between the last pic and this one. This is near the final assembly. Getting that little C-clip in was the biggest pain ever. Of course, now I know what I was doing wrong and it's easy.
Here it is with all of the components together. Of course I still had to install it, then I had to take top half off and redo one particular screw, then I broke the horn switch and I'm waiting on parts. While it was fun, I think this project has passed the "barely worth it" stage, and is into "not worth it" territory.
You amaze me in tackling the steering column rebuild...I guess it is the brain of a man who "rebuilds" people who would take on an intricate project like that. Me? I take it to the shop and wonder how much it will cost when it comes to things on the car. I hope that the Corvette makes its way through Owasso so that I can see it. I guess I must have woke up on the crabby side of the bed when I ragged you about your driving on the video...Sorry.

No worries, Steve!
ReplyDeleteThe last pic is what I though were two left over parts. Fortunately the right piece is easy to put back in, and the left spring didn't come from the steering column, according to the guy who wrote the book (papers) on how to do everything I did. Super helpful guy, I found him on the Corvette Forum online, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/index.php
