Once the parquet was removed and the surface was scraped clean I began the process of installing the cement backerboard, which is the underlayment for the tiles. It prevents the tiles from moving and causing cracks in the grout later. Each piece of backerboard was 3x5' and had to be painstakingly cut to fit where it will be positioned on the floor. Some pieces had no cuts at all, and some (like the piece that went into the closet) had tons of cuts and took forever.
Once all the backerboard was cut and in position, they had to be screwed into place. I estimate that between 1000-1100 screws were used. Thats a lot of work on hands and knees.
This is so exciting! You got a lot done while the rest of the fam was gone. I can't wait to see the finished product.
